- Roofing accomplishes Urban Heat Island requirements using white membrane roofing. This helps to keep the interior of the building cooler by reflecting the radiant heat from the sun. In addition, the high-efficiency light fixtures and HVAC equipment reduce electricity consumption by 25%.
- The McDonald's at Abercorn Common is the first LEED Certified McDonald?s in the country.
- The construction utilized materials with high recycled content and regionally produced construction materials to reduce development impact.
- Use of sustainably harvested wood, as certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, for 100% of wood products in the project.
- The parking lot has sections of pervious pavement. Rainwater soaks through this pavement and is filtered naturally and added back to the water table.
